Sheldon Ramai, D.D.S., FAGD, FICOI, MICOI

Dr. Ramai has been practicing since 1998, and has been with Dental Associates for several years. He speaks fluent Spanish which makes communication much easier for our Spanish speaking patients. While he enjoys the variety that comes with general practice, Dr. Ramai specializes in implant dentistry. He received a Fellowship from the Academy of Dentistry in 2007 and recently was awarded the distinctions of Fellow and Master from the International Congress of Oral Implantology.

Born in Trinidad and earned his D.D.S. degree at the University of the West Indies. He went on to work at the university as a part-time lecturer and clinical instructor for four years while practicing dentistry full-time in a private practice. As a firm believer in continuing education, Dr. Ramai furthered his studies with a one-year postgraduate general practice residency at the University of Puerto Rico and further attained an advanced certification in general dentistry with a two-year postgraduate residency at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Ramai swears by the holistic treatment of patients; " We should always remember, we are not only treating teeth and gums but a person in his/her entirety" Dr. Ramai firmly believes all patients should be treated with the same compassion and attention he would extend to his own family.

Dr Ramai has earned many honors and awards over his career. Most recently, Dr. Ramai was awarded as one of America`s Top Dentists for 2009, as assessed by the Consumers` Research Council of America. In addition, he was named with Honors in the Strathmore`s Who`s Who Professional Assessment Council for 2009.

Dr. Ramai is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Virginia Dental Association, the Northern Virginia Dental Society, the International Congress of Oral Implantology and the Implant Society of Northern Virginia. And most Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings, you will find him volunteering at the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic.

In his free time, Dr. Ramai enjoys going to the gym, cooking and salsa dancing and was once a salsa instructor. He also participates in various outdoor activities such as scuba diving, volleyball, kayaking and hiking. He currently lives in Alexandria.
